Hampton Roads Areas

Seven cities. One home turf.

Hampton Roads has beach days, historic streets, shipyards, city lights, quiet neighborhoods, farmland, festivals, ferry rides and plenty of water in between. I grew up around this region, so here’s the quick feel for each city before you start clicking through listings and market numbers.

Find your Hampton Roads vibe

A little local flavor. A little market context.

Each city has its own rhythm. These are quick introductions, not canned “community guide” filler. When one catches your eye, jump into the city, check the live market, or reach out and I’ll help you narrow it down by neighborhood.

Historic • Waterfront • Artsy

Portsmouth

Olde Towne brick streets, Elizabeth River views, local restaurants, museums, live music and one of the easiest little flexes in Hampton Roads: hop on the ferry and you’re in downtown Norfolk in minutes.

Urban • Waterfront • Creative

Norfolk

Downtown energy, Ghent character, NEON murals, Ocean View beach days, breweries, restaurants and neighborhoods that can feel completely different just a few minutes apart. Norfolk has personality on purpose.

Chesapeake

One city can give you Greenbrier convenience, Great Bridge neighborhoods, country roads, kayaking, wildlife and the Great Dismal Swamp. Chesapeake is where “I want some room” can still stay connected.

Coastal • Active • Everything-in-one

Virginia Beach

The Oceanfront gets the postcards, but VB has layers: Sandbridge, the Chesapeake Bay, Town Center, ViBe, Pungo and 38 miles of coastline. Beach life when you want it, city life when you don’t.

Room to breathe • Food • Small-town charm

Suffolk

Virginia’s largest city by land area gives you downtown charm, newer communities, farms, waterways, chef-owned spots, outdoor adventures and yes, plenty of peanut history. Suffolk can feel relaxed without feeling disconnected.

History • Bayfront • Easygoing

Hampton

Hampton does “old soul, fresh energy” really well: Fort Monroe, Buckroe Beach, waterfront neighborhoods, Hampton University and a city that can take you from centuries of history to the stars at the Air & Space Center.

Shipbuilding • Parks • Peninsula life

Newport News

Shipbuilding runs deep here, but Newport News is more than the yard: the Mariners’ Museum, CNU, miles of parks, waterfront history and neighborhoods stretching from downtown all the way up the Peninsula.

About the market numbers: these are recent citywide median sale prices, not promises of what a specific home will cost. Neighborhood, condition, size, property type and timing can move the number quite a bit. Use the live market links for current trends, or ask me for a neighborhood-level MLS/REIN look.
Need more than the citywide number?

Tell me the lifestyle. I’ll help narrow the map.

Garage? Walkability? Water nearby? Yard space? Shorter commute? Older character home? Newer neighborhood? The city name is only the first filter. The better conversation is how you actually want to live.

LOCAL

Want the deeper market read?

I can pull the REIN/MLS numbers for a specific city, neighborhood, price point or property type so you’re not trying to make a decision from one big citywide average.
